Spring Photo Essay: My Backyard

Lisa Anne Novelline

Even between holidays, there is just so much beauty in this season that sometimes it seems difficult not to become overwhelmed by its loveliness. Arboretums, flower shows, greenhouses, and public gardens are amazing, but true natural beauty sometimes sits right before our eyes unnoticed.

Here is a collection of photos taken in my yard today. If you have a chance, consider exploring your yard this spring (or a friend’s or family member’s). Take lots of pictures, journal, write a poem, hum a tune, sketch what you see, observe the dance of a bumblebee, or simply rest your bare feet in the grass while you breathe in the fragrant blossoms and allow yourself to be fully present in the moment.

Feel free to share, and above all, enjoy!

Happy spring!!!!

Random Acts of Kindness: May Baskets!

Lisa Anne Novelline

The tradition of spreading cheer to others by making and gifting May Baskets is a lovely way to celebrate this month! We purchase baskets, floral foam, and flower bunches. Then, by laying out the flowers sorted by both color and kind, we create an outdoor crafting station!

When our baskets are completed, we all choose a recipient. However, to try and create an element of randomness, we do not give the particular basket we created to the person of our choice. Rather, we draw names to determine which basket goes to whom. In this way, we avoid the mindset of creating an arrangement for a specific person.

In the end, the baskets look lovely, and the giving feels wonderful!
